You can unsubscribe from monthly or weekly services such as the newspapers and mails for the duration when you will be on vacation. A pile of newspapers at your doorstep and mails in your mailbox can signal the burglars that your home is unoccupied.

• Create an Illusion of Occupancy

Another effective way to keep your home safe is by creating an illusion that your home is occupied and not vacant. Trim your lawn just before leaving and ask your neighbors to maintain your lawn for you in your absence. Keep the blinds open. Set timers on the interior lights to make your home look occupied.

• Don't Announce

Don’t announce that you are going on a vacation on social media or even verbally. The more people know that you will be away and your home will be vacant, the higher the chances of burglary and break-ins.
