OVERVIEW
The following is an analysis of neighbourhood livability in Edmonton for millennials, which are those buyers aged 18-35. This analysis was completed using positive factors that increase neighbourhood livability and negative factors that detract from neighbourhood livability using a variety of metrics deemed desirable for young adults looking to buy their first homes.
FACTORS
1. Transportation: bike, bus, LRT
2. Leisure and Culture: arenas, ball diamonds, golf courses, swimming pools, playgrounds, recreation centres, sports fields, public art, public libraries
3. Natural Environment and Public Open Space: parks, sports fields
4. Education: public schools, Catholic schools, post-secondary institutions
5. Food and Other Local Goods: grocery stores, restaurants, pubs, cafes
NEGATIVE LIVEABILITY FACTORS
1. Transportation: high street speeds, high collision locations
2. Crime and Safety: high criminal incidents, litter
FINDINGS
The following maps illustrate areas and neighbourhoods of high livability in dark green, and areas and neighbourhoods with lower livability in red.
